Itinerary
Enjoy a well-balanced 2-day Inca Trail to Machu Picchu, perfect if you want the magic of the Inca Trail without committing to the classic multi-day trek. Starting at Km 104, you’ll hike through cloud-forest scenery and the Urubamba valley, visiting remarkable archaeological sites like Chachabamba and the stunning terraces of Wiñay Wayna. The highlight comes at the legendary Sun Gate (Inti Punku), where you’ll catch your first unforgettable panoramic view of Machu Picchu. After descending to Aguas Calientes, you’ll rest in a 3-star hotel, and the next morning you’ll return for a guided tour of Machu Picchu at sunrise—plus optional hikes (with reservation) such as Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain.
We’ll pick you up from your hotel in Cusco at 4:00 a.m. and travel to Ollantaytambo to board the train to Chachabamba (Km 104), the starting point of the short Inca Trail. Upon arrival, you’ll enjoy a picnic-style breakfast before beginning the hike along a scenic section of the trail, with views of the Urubamba River valley and lush high-jungle vegetation—great for spotting birds and seasonal orchids. You’ll visit Chachabamba and continue toward Wiñay Wayna, one of the most impressive Inca sites on the route thanks to its terraces and dramatic natural setting, while your guide shares stories, history, and Inca secrets. After a picnic lunch, you’ll hike to the Sun Gate (Inti Punku), the iconic viewpoint for your first panoramic postcard view of Machu Picchu and memorable photos. Finally, you’ll descend by bus to Aguas Calientes, check into a 3-star hotel, enjoy dinner, and rest for the next day. (Note: passengers carry their box lunch and personal belongings.)
Meals: Picnic breakfast, box lunch. Guided time: approx. 5 hours. Overnight: Hotel in Aguas Calientes.
After a delicious breakfast at the hotel, you’ll take the bus up to Machu Picchu at sunrise, an ideal time to experience the citadel in soft golden light. Your guide will lead a ~2-hour guided tour through the most iconic areas, including ceremonial plazas, temples, and terraces, bringing Inca history and worldview to life. You’ll then have free time to explore, take photos, and soak in the scenery; those who reserved in advance may do optional hikes to Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain. Later, you’ll descend by bus to Aguas Calientes to board the panoramic train back to Ollantaytambo, then continue by vehicle to Cusco, arriving at your hotel to end an unforgettable Andean adventure.
