Itinerary
Enjoy a truly different full-day experience from Arequipa with the Wine & Pisco Routes – Majes Valley, a private tour that blends archaeology, paleontology, and local gastronomy in one of southern Peru’s most surprising valleys. You’ll explore the impressive Toro Muerto Petroglyphs, a vast collection of rock carvings attributed to the Wari culture, where you’ll discover ancient symbols and figures etched into stone across a striking desert landscape. Next, visit Querulpa, known for its dinosaur footprints and a small fossil museum. The journey continues with lunch in Corire, famous for dishes made with fresh Majes River shrimp, and ends with a visit to an artisan pisco winery to learn about production and enjoy a tasting. A complete day of scenery, tradition, and culture—perfect for travelers seeking authentic experiences beyond the usual routes.
We begin at 6:00 a.m. with hotel pick-up in Arequipa and depart toward the Majes Valley, enjoying southern Peru’s landscapes along the way. Around 10:00 a.m., we arrive at the Toro Muerto Petroglyphs for a guided visit to admire the impressive carvings attributed to the Wari culture, interpreting their figures and cultural value in the Andean context. We continue and at 11:30 a.m. walk to the Querulpa Dinosaur Footprints, also visiting the small fossil museum—a fascinating stop to learn about prehistoric evidence found in the area. At 1:00 p.m. we stop in Corire for lunch, featuring specialties made with fresh river shrimp from the Majes River. In the afternoon, we visit an artisan pisco winery, learn about the production process, and take part in a tasting.
