Itinerary
Experience the iconic 1-day Inca Trail to Machu Picchu and follow ancient stone paths through dramatic Andean landscapes and extraordinary Inca heritage. Starting at Km 104, this route blends nature and history as you visit Chachabamba, hike onward to the breathtaking terraces of Wiñay Wayna, and reach the legendary Sun Gate (Inti Punku) for your first unforgettable panoramic view of Machu Picchu. You’ll then enter the sanctuary to explore Machu Picchu Circuit 1, ideal for admiring the most iconic terraces, temples, and viewpoints, with a professional guide and a tasty picnic lunch along the way.
Your day begins very early with hotel pick-up in Cusco at 4:00 a.m., followed by a transfer to Ollantaytambo to board the Expedition train to Kilometer 104, the starting point of the 1-day Inca Trail. From here, you begin hiking along a historic route that combines cloud-forest scenery with mountain views, first visiting the archaeological site of Chachabamba, an important Inca ceremonial complex. As you continue, the trail climbs through stone stairways and classic Inca pathways, revealing sweeping vistas of the valley and a truly immersive blend of culture and nature, until you reach Wiñay Wayna, one of the most beautiful sites on the trail thanks to its agricultural terraces and privileged setting; here you’ll enjoy a picnic-style lunch. Afterward, you hike to the Sun Gate (Inti Punku), the historic viewpoint where trekkers get their first sight of the citadel—expect a stunning panoramic view of Machu Picchu before entering the site to complete Circuit 1, perfect for appreciating the most representative terraces, temples, and classic photo spots. At the end of the visit, you take the bus down to Aguas Calientes to catch the return Expedition train to Ollantaytambo, then a private vehicle transfer back to Cusco, arriving at approximately 9:30 p.m..
