Itinerary
Make the most of your time in the Andes with the Super Sacred Valley—a perfect route for travelers who want deeper culture, Inca archaeology, and epic landscapes before heading to Machu Picchu. You’ll discover Chinchero and its ancestral textiles, explore Moray with its circular terraces used as an Inca agricultural laboratory, and admire the breathtaking scenery of the Maras Salt Mines, formed by thousands of salt ponds worked since pre-Inca times. After a buffet lunch in Urubamba, you’ll visit the impressive fortress of Ollantaytambo. The day ends with the Expedition train to Aguas Calientes, where one hotel night is included and local assistance helps you get ready for Machu Picchu.
We start at 06:40 a.m. with hotel pick-up and head into the Super Sacred Valley of the Incas. Our first stop is at the artisan “awanás” in Chinchero, where you’ll observe traditional loom weaving and learn about ancestral dyeing and textile techniques—living Andean heritage. Next, we visit the Chinchero archaeological complex, admiring Inca architecture and the colonial church that reflects cultural fusion. We continue to Moray, famous for its circular terraces used as an Inca agricultural laboratory, and then to the Maras Salt Mines, a spectacular landscape of thousands of salt ponds shining under the sun, worked since pre-Inca times. In the Urubamba Valley, we enjoy a buffet lunch with regional dishes before heading to Ollantaytambo, where terraces and ceremonial spaces reveal the power of Inca engineering. Finally, we go to the station to board the Expedition train from Ollantaytambo to Aguas Calientes, where staff will meet you, transfer you to your hotel, and provide recommendations for your Machu Picchu visit.
