Itinerary
Discover one of Peru’s most breathtaking high-altitude landscapes on the Rainbow Mountain Tour, an Andean adventure that takes you to Vinicunca (5,300 m), famous for its natural mineral colors and epic panoramic views. The day starts before sunrise to make the most of the weather and light, traveling through the southern valley and passing traditional villages before reaching Cusipata for an energizing breakfast. From Phulawasipata (4,600 m), you’ll begin an approximately 1.5-hour hike surrounded by alpacas, highland scenery, and the dramatic presence of the Ausangate mountain range. At the viewpoint, enjoy free time for photos and appreciation, then return for an Andean buffet lunch before heading back to Cusco. Perfect for travelers seeking mountains, nature, and unforgettable Andes memories.
We start very early at 04:30 a.m. with hotel pick-up in Cusco and travel south through the valley by tourist transport. During the approximately three-hour drive, we pass charming Andean towns such as Oropesa, famous for its “pan chuta” bread, Andahuaylillas, known as the “Sistine Chapel of the Americas”, and Urcos, until we reach the district of Cusipata, where we enjoy an energizing breakfast before continuing to Phulawasipata (4,600 m), the starting point of the hike. We begin an approximately 1.5-hour trek through highland landscapes, spotting herds of alpacas and llamas, high-altitude birds, and the impressive Ausangate range, until we arrive at the Mountain of 7 Colors viewpoint (Vinicunca, 5,300 m). You’ll have free time to admire the multicolored scenery, take photos, and enjoy the magic of the Andes. We then return to Phulawasipata, head back to Cusipata for an Andean buffet lunch, and return to Cusco, arriving around 5:00 p.m..
