Itinerary
Explore the best of the Callejón de Huaylas on an unforgettable day trip from Huaraz, blending epic Andean scenery, powerful history, and living traditions. This full-day experience takes you to Carhuaz, known for its artisan ice cream made with local fruits, then continues to the Yungay Memorial Site, a moving place that honors the events of the 1970 earthquake, with a special viewpoint at the White Christ. The highlight is Llanganuco Lake, specifically Chinancocha (3,850 m), famous for its turquoise waters, surrounded by queñual forests and framed by snowcapped giants like Huandoy, Yanapaccha, and Huascarán. To finish the day, you’ll stop in Taricá to see traditional clay handicrafts. A perfect tour for travelers seeking nature, culture, and authentic local experiences in one day.
Start time: 8:30 am – 9:00am / Estimated end time in Huaraz: 07:00pm. We depart from Huaraz toward the Callejón de Huaylas, enjoying a scenic ride through valleys and highland landscapes. Our first stop is Carhuaz, where we enjoy a tasting of artisan ice cream made with local fruits, and visit the town church and main square to feel its traditional atmosphere. Next, we continue to the Yungay Memorial Site (Ranrahirca–Yungay), where we learn about the city buried by the 1970 earthquake and walk up to the White Christ viewpoint to better understand the significance of this historic place. We then head to Llanganuco Lake, visiting Chinancocha (3,850 m), admired for its intense turquoise color, surrounded by queñual forests and flanked by the snowcapped peaks of Huandoy, Yanapaccha, and Huascarán, with time to enjoy the views and take photos. After the visit, we descend for lunch at a tourist restaurant, and on the way back to Huaraz we make a final stop in Taricá to see how local clay handicrafts are made, ending the service upon arrival in Huaraz.
