The Karajía Sarcophagi were discovered in 1985 by Peruvian archaeologist Federico Kauffmann Doig. Also known as “purunmachos” -or “purunmachus” which in Quechua means “ancient man”-, these anthropomorphic sarcophagi reach 2 meters in height.
