Overview of the 1-Day Fortified Citadel of Kuelap Tour
The Kuelap fortress is a walled city of more than 400 buildings, built by the Chachapoyas culture in northern Peru. The fortress is one of the largest in the Americas, with an extension of six hectares. It is located on top of a mountain at 3000 meters above sea level, and dominates the valley of the Utcubamba River.
The fortress is composed of two superimposed artificial platforms, on which the town center is located. The most impressive thing about Kuelap are the enormous defensive walls that delimit the "Lower Town" and the "Upper Town".
